Sydney Integrative Medicine now working together with Sydney Mindfulness Training

We are excited to announce that Rita Young from Sydney Mindfulness Training has joined the team at the Sydney Integrative Medicine to offer her expertise as a mindfulness coach, working with individuals in the short term to bring mindfulness (awareness) into each day so as to better cope with the inevitable ups and downs of life.

Mindfulness practices align with most other therapies in bringing awareness to the “here and now” – a helpful way to circumvent avoidance and addictive patterns.

Why Mindfulness?
We all have the internal, innate resources to learn, grow and heal – provided we are mindful. By mindfulness we mean an increased awareness in our day-to-day living, to capture those moments that are usually lost in mindlessness.

It is a way of taking charge of our life. It can help restore balance and stability by working systematically with stress, pain, illness, and the demands of everyday.

When we pay attention to the present moment, using techniques like meditation, breathing and yoga, we become more aware of our thoughts and feelings, and are better able to respond more effectively to them.

Practising mindfulness can give us better insight into our emotions, boost our attention and concentration and improve our relationships. It’s proven to help with stress, anxiety, depression and addictive behaviours, and can have a positive effect on physical problems like hypertension, heart disease and chronic pain.

Mindfulness has been demonstrated to effectively help us live with less stress, fear, and anxiety and to cultivate more ease, connection, and well being in our lives.

“Teaching mindfulness is a continual and gentle re-examination and reflection of my own motivations for teaching which constantly change and mature – a living teaching – a lifetime engagement.

It is not so much a method or technique but rather a way of tapping into all aspects of what it is to be human: the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful.

“My intention is to come back to awareness over and over, and to be able to live my life consciously from moment to moment, and support others who choose to live the same way.”

Rita is a Somatic Psychotherapist with 20 years clinical experience.  She has completed all levels of training outlined by the Centre for Mindfulness (MASS) for facilitation of MBSR course. Her extensive experience includes teaching MBSR in the fields of health care and education, most notably to Medical Students at the University of Notre Dame.

Rita works at Sydney Integrative Medicine on Thursday mornings from 8:00am to 12:30pm.
